that is a common misconception. it is actually due to the manufacturer reporting its size using 1gb = 1,000,000,000 bytes when it is actually 1024x1024x1024 bytes

none is really better. personally i would choose primary partition, i don't like using extended partitions where it can be avoided but really it doesn't make a difference
