Powering up

Hey everyone,
My sister computer is acting funny. Sometimes when she push the power button it doesnt turn on. I cant remember the specs. of her computer right now but what I do remember is it is a hand down computer from our dad and it is a gateway PC running windows XP w/ about 600MB of ram. Where can I start looking for to fix this problem?

Start with the PSU. Also find out if it makes any sounds when the power button is pressed.

I would follow any advice Mak gives you first before trying anything else, but if you still can't power up, maybe try another switch. I had a bad one just the other day and took one out of my two other "parts" machines. That did the trick.

When you boot up the computer it doesnt make any noise at all. It just you push the button sometimes it fires up and sometimes it doesnt do anythink at all.

Then i would say the PSU is dead.
