Is it possible with mac and PC?

This is not really a problem, but more of a question.

I have a 3 in 1 printer. Printer/Fax/Scanner.

Is it possible for me to hook up my mac laptop and PC laptop in to the printer at the same time? Would I need some sort of splitter?

what kind of printer is it? i'm guessing USB. i don't think they make any similar sort of device for USB though they used to make parallel port splitters. however the parallel port splitters required you to switch between devices.

a USB device works in a host and slave relationship, as far as i know there can only be one host (in this case either of the computers) to each slave (the printer).

Unless both laptop's are on the same network then you could share the printer. Also if the printer has a nic in it you could attach printer to switch and both laptop's can use it.

Ok, well I need to look at the printer. A friend just asked me if I could hook it up and if it was possible. I dont know much about printers and having 2 different computers through them so yea, just thought i would ask. Thanks though.
