Plugging crashed laptop hard disk into computer?

My laptop recently crashed and it is not possible to install an operating system onto it without re-formatting (Believe me i've tried everything possible). Is it possible to plug the laptop hard disk drive into my main computer and retrieve the data from it this way? Or would it blow the drive? What do I need to do in order to plug it in and retrieve the data? I have no idea how to do this, so I have turned to you guys. Please help, I will not proceed until I get a reply, I'm really scared lol.

Hi. You can't do that, sorry...laptops hard drives and Desktop's are different. Do you mean that you don't have an Operating System installed or it's not working/corrupt? What do you mean by crashed? It won't boot? Please, be more specific.
