PLEASE HELP! CD Drive doesn't work

Hi, I have a problem with my CD drive (it's a CD burner; my computer is a VAIO laptop). Every time I try to burn pictures on a CD, my computer spends several minutes burning the CD, but then, at the very end, I get a message "Unable to complete the CD writing wizard".
Since I am apparently a computer idiot, I replaced my CD drive in the hopes of resolving the problem. Hmm. Problem not resolved.
Please help me figure out what this could be. Thanks!!!

i assume that your os is xp

have you burnt cd's b4 on this notebook
is the media R or R/W ?
What program are you using to burn the cd's ? Did you try and reinstalling the burning program ? Have you tried win xp's native cd burning ?

If you've been able to write cds before, its most likely the cause of other programs hogging resources (hard drive esp.). If the data can not be supplied at the write speed, the CD will fail writing.

Try burning the CD and don't touch a thing until its complete and see if that works.
