pixel problem

i have an older toshiba laptop and when I try to set my pixels to any size lower than 1024x768 it will set it lower but the desktop doesnt fit to screen... is there any way to fix this?

i think that happens on all laptops... all the ones i have seen anyway

yes, laptops have a fixed aspect ratio...
