If I did get it to work, who knows how long it would last. Once a drive dies, if you are lucky enough to get it back up the only thing worth doing is to ghost it or grab your files ASAP because you know it is going to fail again... the only question is when.

Totally agree - that is what i was saying. You may have been able to get the drive in working order, but it probably would have taken a long time to do and probably wouldn't last long.

Once a drive starts dying it is downhill from there IMO.
