PC won't start

Turned pc on, BIOS loaded, RAM loaded in slowly... It then told me to enter password and turned itself off, now each time I turn it on it powers up without button being pressed and only fans turn on... Nothing more happens

I have an AsRock penryn 1600sli-110dB motherboard with a pentium Q6700 CPU and 8gb of ram

Already tried different RAM sticks so ruled that out and put a different graphics card in and a continuous beep came from the GPU with no image..

Also reset CMOS using the jumper connections and by removing the battery... Still nothing

Is there an easy way of telling if it's the mb or cpu that has died and is preventing it reaching POST

Any help will be appreciated

Hi all

Put new CMOS batt in and it now boots up... Strange, as everyone's been saying that it should boot without a battery at all! o_O

Glad to hear it was just a dead CMOS battery.

It should boot without a CMOS battery, you're right - it just won't save settings. It's possible it was corrupting settings when trying to load them or something wasn't getting set correctly once it was loaded. Hard telling.
