PC will only boot from windows cd (XP h e)

Hello. I have recently purchased a custom-built pc, retaining cd/rw &dvd rws , plus both hard drives.Iam finding I can't boot the machine normally and have to use the windows CD (XP he) to get it up and running. The mobr is an A8n SLI board which supports the later sata hard-drives .Is it probable that this is the reason it won't boot normally ?...do i need maybe ide controllers or whatever they are called , and if so where do i get them from ?

Maybe a little more info will help. Like Is this set up wit raid? Has this computer ever booted normal since you got it? When you say you boot it with the cd does it go into the windows program.If so try to use the F8 key upon booting when it brings up the diagnostic screen use the start computer with the last known good configuration. If none of this works maybe reformat and reinstall.
