a corsair 750w would be fine for your set up. and could handle another gx2 in sli

Cheers Phil. And a Corsair PSU is reliable enough I take it?

I'll be very dissapointed if my PSU is at fault. The Enermax Galaxy series are supposed to be awesome psu's.

I've just ordered a Corsair 1000w PSU.

I think it'll be worth trying my old 680i motherboard. I have a feeling that the mobo is the problem now.

Oh yeah, here's a question. Is it possible to actually destroy say a motherboard if you put in a PSU that provides power beyond the need of the PC? Say my system only used 500 watts, and I installed a 850w PSU....could the PSU destroy the motherboard, for example?

Not very likely. The 850W is the maximum output, not the steady output at all times. It only outputs the power required for everything in your PC. If the power demand of the PC increases, the output of the PSU will increase until the max output of 850W is hit.

One word........no :p You can put a 100Kw into a piece of crap and it would be fine, maybe that's an exageration but yes that would not have caused any problems.
