pc keeps freezing, have to restart by button

Hey, everytime my pc starts up it freezes, altho its not consistant.. i am on just now and its going fine but then, if i was to shut down and go on again, i cudnt even start a program before it freezes. I think its a hardware problem because the only way to shut it down is by the button..
please help!

These problems are usually related to hardware, although it could be software. Download and burn to a disc a program called memtest86. Do a Google search on it, and you should find it. Once you burn it to disc, reboot the computer and test the memory- as it could be a memory issue. If it passes all tests, at least memory is ruled out, and we can start elsewhere....

This may have something to do with your Processor. Mine would usually freeze up in games after about 10-15 minutes and then I would have to hard reset. I brought it to the guys that built it and he said my cpu was overheating so much that all the wax melted off my cpu. He put some better wax on it and made it cooler and now it runs fine.
