PC cant detect HDD

Ive got an old IBM Aptiva which has a 4.2GB HDD and I want to increase it. Ive tried using a 40GB HDD in it but at POST it says "Detecting IDE Drives" and doesnt move but when I put the original 4.2GB HDD in it, it detected the IDE drive straight away.

How can I get it working?

Its because your BIOS is so old that it can't recongize the size. But try a drive smaller then 8 GB.

I wanted a drive bigger than at least 20GB, 8GB is too small.
By the way its not for porn!

So theres no way to make the computer recongise a bigger HDD?

Well, you could look into flashing your BIOS. But you would have to reasearch that online or call up the motherboard tech support and ask them.
