partial screen white out

since upgrading memory, there is a white strip down the left side of the screen once the computer is booted up (doesn't appear while booting is happening). what can be done about this?

Remove the new RAM, put in the old. Does the problem stop?

Gotta be an incompatibility somewhere. What are your system specs? motherboard? Your new RAM as well as your old.
