My first thought is that the motherboard is not seeing your hard drive. Make sure that your BIOS is set to recognize the type (IDE or SATA), and that you have both the power and the data cables plugged all around.

If the drive is new, there is no boot data on the drive. You need to install Windows XP, Vista, 7 on it.

There could be several possible causes of your problem.

1. Bad HDD (hopefully not)

2. Check your bios settings and see if is in AHCI or compatibility mode. (I have had this problem multiple times when trying to instal windows and 9 times out of ten changing the mode from AHCI fixes the problem

3. Check the connections and make sure you have your data cables and power cables to your new hdd secured and if so then re-seat the connections

4. Bad IDE or SATA port ( Try switching your data cable to a different port on your motherboard

Good luck and I hope this helps
