Default Optical problems

My optical drive (Samsung SH-182M) disappears from my computer/device manger after I wake my comp up from sleep/hibernate/lock
therefore I need a restart if I want to use it
any ideas whats causing the problem?

some general info:
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP bios - 1305
2GB GSkill
E6300 - 2.8
8800 GTS
X-FI sound

think bios update will fix this?
if so which version should I use? latest one or 2403? 2004?

BIOS upgrade may or may not solve the problem, but for a quick fix. just go to hardware profile, and right click computer name, select (scan for changes). and it will bring out your optical drive

It could be a vista driver fault
