I am currently working in a small office. There are four pcs running windows xp
when pc 1 is turned off databases and internet cannot be accessed by the other 3. there is no router in the office all pcs are on a lan would firewalls being turned on be causing this. I have noticed before firewalls can prevent 1 pc seeing another in small networks. Any ideas

Yes firewalls will prevent access from outside computers (point of the firewall ). Either the computers that can access have their firewall off OR they are configured to accept requests from particular IPs or an IP range.

Your office may not have a router, but it HAS to have some type of hub or switch that is allowing all of your computers to communicate.
