This happened out of nowhere. My mouse (Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical) just lags for no reason. It doesn't slow down or get a little choppy; it just stops. In fact, sometimes I hear the little sounds of "you've disconnected hardware" and then immediately "you've connected hardware" as if Vista Home Premium 32-bit stopped recognizing my mouse for 3 seconds.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Edit: I just realized this usually happens when I do...something. Like close a tab in firefox. Or press play in Windows Media Player. Or shoot in a game.

Have you got the latest drivers for both your mouse and chipset?

Yes the mother board chipset. They contain updates for USB drivers most of the time now.

Ok, I think I just installed them...But it took like 2.5 seconds. I'll let you know if it works, thanks.

Edit: Nope, unless I did something wrong.

Have you tried a different USB Port? Have you got it connected thru a USB Hub?

It's not connected through a hub, and I think I've tried different USB ports. I'll try a different one.

edit: Hm...this third port is working out so far...

edit: nope. same problem.

edit: my internet connection has been pretty poor. Could there be a connection between these two things?

Well, the optical laser (or whatever it's called) turns off when my mouse freezes, so something is completely just stopping.
