Nothing gets saved

I have a problem with my computer. Everytime I turn it off nothing gets saved, for example none of my word files get saved or music. Is this problem a result of my hardware overheating (I leave my computer on for long periods of time). If this is a hardware problem what particular piece of hardware do I have to replace? Any solutions? I've checked google but I havent come up with anything. Any assistrance would be appreciated.

... comeon dude, nothing gets saved at all, none of my files no matter where I save them

I had that happen once and I had to use the "disk cleanup" option to remove old files and temp files etc. I was running XP Pro SP1 at the time, not sure what OS you are using.
