Default notebook/video editing/external drive

Stupid question: I have an HP notebook with only 60 GB HD. I do video editing and would like to burn them on DVD. However editing video takes up all of the hard drive on the HP. I bought an external 200GB HD. Now I have the file I want to burn onot DVD on it and when trying to burn it still seems to wanna burn via HP 60 GB drive, which is full. HOW DO I BYPASS THE ORIGINAL DRIVE AND DIRECTLY BURN FROM EXTERNAL DRIVE TO DVD???? IS THIS POSSIBLE??? THANKS,
