okay, so I just set up my system, but when I turn it on, my motherboard has a solid beep and then it shuts itself off and tries to start up again, only to have another solid beep and crash. What's going on?

might be bad ram

either inserted incorrectly...or an actual bad chip

this is "typically" but could be other things, such as motherboard itself or other component....have ram compatible ram laying around you could test?

Oh ya, I was so busy moving the thread I forgot to mention possible causes for the issue...

Memory not seated properly, possibly bad RAM itself

Maybe you can check the mobo's beep codes. Motherboards.org has (I think) beep codes, I know they have a lot of online manuals, if you don't have yours handy. Sometimes you can get lucky and find your manual there. They have a lot of the more well-known boards represented, as well as some not so well known ones.
