New Sata Drive is slower then my Old ide

I got a new segate drive for xmas, its this one herehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148040. I installed it, and it works fine with no problems. But after running a few benches, with Sandras, HD Tune, And HD Tach its running slower then my old maxtor 40gig ide 7200 2mb buffer. Some of the speeds im hitting are.

New Seagate
Transfer Rate
Min - 28.5
Max 57.1
Avg 46.2
Access Time - 12.7
Burst Rate 93.4

Old Maxtor
Transfer Rate
Min - 36.5
Max 57.9
Avg 50
Access Time -13.5
Burst Rate 101.4

Perhaps I dont have my Serial Ata port configured right, im not sure. I have an Asus a7n8x Deluxe Mb. Any help would be great. Thank you

I believe they are. Ive heard that the i need to use the raid drivers to get the performace i want, The regular sata drivers just act like a normal Ide. I will double check them.

Hitting lower numbers is better. If you noticed where it said transfer rate it says min and max and avg. That's how fast you computer can write data to the harddrive and lower is better. So it is faster, you were just looking at it wrong. :)
