Question New HTPC build powers down after a few seconds....

I would appreciate any help on this matter....I've just put together a HTPC, but unfortunately although it powers on OK, it powers off after only a few seconds. I have a list of parts, but is there something obvious that I am missing?

It seems as though the PC is powering down as a fail-safe, but I can't think what might cause it to do so...

AMD A8-3850, Asrock A75M mobo, Silverstone SST-ST45SF 450W, 60Gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD, 8Gb RAM

Does it make it/through POST? Do you have a mobo speaker in it (to hear the BIOS beep codes if it gives one)?

NO Mobo speaker ... on the advice of one of the many people who knows better than me, I disconnected everything, placed the motherboard on a workbench, and tried connecting another power supply (Rosewill 400W), and to another outlet (it was going through a cheap surge protector initially). No change. System still powers down (although after a longer time, so we're getting somewhere!)
