Hey people...in my first post I figured I'd make it a wave-jab combo.

Saying hello, then stick ya in the brain with a question.
Nothing special about me, I game on BF2 and DayOfDefeat:S, if any of you people do too...respect.
I dont know computers to good, so hopefully you guys can help me fix the little bugs for my machine.

On to business:

I recently donwloaded a torrent program. In order to make it work properly, I needed to open a TCP Listen Port. After following many guides upon the web, I managed to get one open. What I did was ran a certain "CMD" command in my "Run Programs" to find out which ports were open to use. After I found one I unblocked that port in my Norton Ativirus firewall. Then I was able to download torrents. Now that Ive opened the port my interweb speed has decreased sufficiantly(sp?).
It takes a while to log into 3rd party stuff. Like XFire, or MSN, or the online games. Much lag in games.
I am running on wireless, on a Lynksys 2.4 Ghz router.
I did not touch ANY of the router's settings. Only setting I did was the Norton AV. I thought I could just fix the problem by uninstalling the AV. Did not work, and I dont have the disc in my posession. Can get it, if needed.
I should note that max speed for wireless is 54.0 Mbps.
I bounces between 24.0 and 36.0 Mbps.

This has happened from when only I opened the port.

My question is how to find the port and close it.
Maybe close and open at my liking.

I know what port it is, I just dont know how to close.

Thanks.

Im pretty computer illiterate(sp?) so this was a huge task for me. Be easy on the explaination please.

Thanks in advance boys and girls.....this will be a fun ride!

Does your internet only slow down when your using the torrent program? Since the torrent program requires upload and download bandwidth. The upload might be set too high.

What is the speed of download/upload speed from your service provider?

umm, might you consider a p2p app? ive ran torrents, and there good and all, but the apps r better. just a few to list are bearshare, limewire, 360share. i gotta say the best is bearshare, but the older versions are better.

as for closing and opening the port, go to antivirus, and reblock the port

BRINKS: Once my net started slowing down, i stopped using the torrent program, untill i, or someone figures out this problem.

BMXFREAK: p2p are getting to filled with spam and bunk files.

I have had enough with dling stuff, only to have it turn into "AAAAAFREEPORN"

Its not even porn for eff sakes.

So, I should re-install the AV, then reblock?

Thanks for the heads up though.
