New, and a few problems

Hello everybody. I'm new, and I'm not ALL that great with computers.

I like to play Counter Strike Source alot, but on high detail levels, ie. de_inferno and cs_militia, My sound and video freezes and the sounds loops. Why is it doing this, and what should I do to fix this? Im running the game on dx 9 and other ppl with the same card (ATI X1600) have the same problem. Apparently, the fix is some sort of BIOS update, and I don't know what that even is. What do I do?

Help is appreciated for me, the Luddite.

I also read it could be something to do with forcing directx 9.0C as its not working correctly. I would also contact steam help.
