yes, there is a chance it might not be the PSU. if it isn't the PSU, though, I'd point to the motherboard.

any other option I can actually try. All the above so far require me spending money, buying a psu or sending the mobo back

you could try swapping the motherboard to an Asus A8V

the A8V retails for less, and is IMO a better board.

though I am still skeptical about the PSU. it doesn't sound like a very good one....

you have the A8V? the link you posted showed an ASRock board (which isn't a very high quality one)
