Default new computer freezing up...

My computer is freezing up on a regular basis. It usually happens when I'm running just one or two applications (like internet explorer and itunes). Sometimes I get a BSOD indicating a "machine check exception" (STOP: 0x0000009C (0x00000004, 0x00000000, 0xb2000000, 0x00070F0F) after rebooting when it freezes. I know it isn't overheating. Also, sometimes the computer simply does not boot up when I press the power button, or remains "off" when I bring it back from standby. Any ideas what could be going on?

It could be a ram problem.Get ram tester and run it to check. If you have two sticks of ram try to run your computer with just one stick at a time to troubleshoot.

As I just posted in a thread where someone was asking about RAM, I get a similar BSOD that you do... It ONLY happens when iTunes in running, and when I am ripping music from a CD. It seems to ONLY happen with scratched CD's, as it ONLY happens with CERTAIN CD's, and does it on only 1 or 2 tracks on a CD....

Out of about 50-60 CD's ripped with iTunes, I have only seen the issue with about 5 CD's... so I missed between 5-8 songs.

I've run memtest and it indicated no errors, but the computer also froze while the test was running. It seems to be freezing more often now, maybe after about 20-30 minutes of usage. iTunes does not have to be running for the problem to occur, however, i also found the same issue when i tried to import a scratched CD--iTunes crashes, followed by a BSOD. If I open a more demanding program like photoshop the computer crashes soon thereafter. any other ideas?
