so i put this computer with parts that i had for a friend and i got everything put together and then i tried to turn it on after i finished and when i turned it on i know it started because you could hear the fans turn on and the motherboard light was and the keyboard lights were on and working on but it would not let you open the disk drives and the monitor will not turn on.

i have tried to put in a different disk drive and that didnt work. i also tried useing a differnt monitor but that didnt work and i tried puttin a differten video card and that didnt work.....

does anyone know anything i can try to try and fix this problem?

It sounds like your motherboard is grounded or something is wrong with your ram arrangement.

I would try starting it with only 1 stick of ram in the first slot.

Anything metal can ground the motherboard. The other day I fixed a computer that had a similair problem. The metal backing of the CPU fan was grounding the motherboard. Everything would spin up and light up but there wasn't any video and it wouldn't post.

What I did to see if the motherboard was grounded was start it outside of the case with no screws or anything. If you do this you need to be very careful ;-)

Good luck!

no, first take the mobo out and hook everything up and then start it.

here is a like to some threads with the same problems that I might have gone more in depth on.

ok well ill tey that and tell you what happens! thanks for the reply!

it didnt work i dont know what else it could be!

Could you edit your original post and post your specs? What kind of cpu fan are you using? And be more specific about what happens. Can you hear the hard drive spin up? Do the case fans turn on? Does the motherboard beep or light up?
