Netgear Router enjoys cutting out

I have a netgear DG834GT (Its white... has an antenna...) and it does enjoy dropping my internet connection at inconvenient times.

Now I am aware that it is a sentient being, from the fact that it will only cut out the internet when I am in a critical discussion on MSN, or doing something important.

Normally, it auto-connects again, but sometimes I have to power down the thing.

Now I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, short of voodoo mantras?

I did consider that it might be lonely, so I have positioned an Alcatel modem next to it to keep it company but alas to no avail, so any realistic suggestions are much appreciated.

yes try different firmwares, sometimes you'll have to use older ones to get it working properly.
