Need Some Help, Please.

I got my hands on this: Gateway® GM5420 (The specs: Gateway Support - Specifications). Today, I went out & bought this: Acer 18.5 Wide Monitor (Acer 18.5-inch Wide LCD TFT Monitor (16:9 HD, 5ms, VGA, 10000:1): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories).

I connected everything as required, but when I turn the monitor on first, and then the power switch, my monitor says "no signal." I've tried unplugging everything from the wall and the extension cord, switching the placement on the extensions, and some other things.

Does it matter that the Acer monitor is VGA? Do I need to go exchange my monitor to a DVI capable monitor, or buy those converter thingies?

I'm in desperate need of help!

I'm confused. If you're asking about VGA converters, do you not have a VGA mobo connector? How would you plug the computer into the monitor? Secondly, how long are you waiting before you switch off the monitor? It takes a few seconds for the monitor to recognize the input.

If you can physically plug the monitor and PC into the same cable without breaking anything you don't need a converter.

Which do you have on your pc and your monitor? They should both be vga.
