A few days ago a mystery folder appeared on my desktop. Neither my husband nor I noticed when exactly it showed up. The folder is empty and has no name and cannot be deleted. I have tried several clean up utilities and nothing has gotten rid of it. Although it does not seem to be effecting my computer, I fear that it may at some point. I am running Win XP.

whats the message when you try to delete it? it could be 'in use' (stupid stupid windows!) so try booting safe mode and deleting it. define clean up utilities for me :) do you still have a my documents folder on your desktop? is it possible that this folder is it and its currupted some how?

is this one of those things where the name is a special character, a space, typed using alt+something or other that cannot be reomved though windows?

try getting rid of it using the command prompt, using the "rmdir"

This works great:

Using Unlocker
--------------

How often have you tried to delete or rename a file or folder and got
"Cannot delete xxx: It is being used by another person or program." ?

Unlocker is a tool which will help you removing this scandaleous Windows
bug.

Simply right click the file or folder and select Unlocker. If the file
or folder is locked then a window will appear with a list of processes
locking the file or folder. Select the locks and click Unlock and you
are done.

It is recommended to Unlock wisely and to close open processes locking
files or folder if any, but if only Explorer.exe is the culprit, do not
hesitate ! :D
