Default My hard drive is beeping what does it mean? :S

I have a hitachi simpletech 1tb simpledrive and it fell off my desk and now when i turn it on and plug it in it starts beeping then clicking and is not recognised by the computer. Is there anything i can do?

most likely broken. To try to get data off of it I would take it out of the case a hook it up internally to your computer (if it is the enclosure that is broken then you will have a working drive but it is most likely the drive that has broke.). You may also need to do the freezer trick with it where you put it in the freezer for a half hour then hook it up and get what data you can in the short period of time it may work.

What does the freezer trick actually do to make it work? Just curious .

It can contract some of the broken parts making them work for a few minutes. It is a last ditch method for data recovery before you send the drive away to have the platters pulled.
