My External Usb Drive Showing As Unallocated Space

What type of partition were you using at the time ? if you were using FAT32 for a 500gb for archiving purposes I see no reason for it to do that.
However if you used NTFS format which is for security and keepings things more managable, it may have gotten corrupted and locked itself up.

If your external hdd has software that came with it that might be able to reacess the hdd, give it another shot.

I'm pretty sure it was NTFS. As for it being an external drive it's just a spare 500gb barracuda I had lying around that I put in a nextar 3.5 case. No software came with it.

No go with seatools, picked up the drive the first time I ran the program but it couldn't run the scan. Now it doesnt see it at all.

Can you get a Linux Boot-CD? Ubuntu is the most used. Burn ISO to a CD, and boot off it. See if Ubuntu sees anything.
