My dvd-rom, grr

Hey guys, first off.. this is my drive.

READ Speed
- DVD-ROM : 16X
- CD-ROM : 48X
Physical Spec
- Form Factor: 5.25"
- Panel Color: Black
Configuration
- Load Type: Tray
- Interface: SATA

My problem...

When I insert a game, it works fine. The games menu or install screen pops right up.
When I insert a dvd or audio cd it works fine as well.

But when I insert a blank cd, such as my imation CD-R, it continuously blinks (the little yellow/green light) and it makes a noise like it violently is spinning the disc even though it's not (it is in the same position when I open it compared to when I closed it).

Any idea why it is refusing to read these blank discs?

according to the specs you provided the dvd drive in question is not a burner only a reader. That is why it cannot read blank disks because they do not have any files on them to read.
