mouse always on

i just got a new wireless logitech mouse and key board. and when i turn the computer off the mouse is still on i can see the red light for the laser.

This happen with my wired mouse to is there some way to make the mouse turn off.

I only care because the batteries only lasted about a month and i don't want to burn though lots of batteries.

well i think most cordless optical mouses turn off after a few minutes of inactivity.

It doesn't use much if any of the battery. Mine just flashes on and off while it's not being used, but I dont worry, it's called batteries, they're like $0.25 each.
