I'm building a spare PC out of extra parts for a friend, and he doesn't have any of those little copper colored pegs you screw into your case so your motherboard is suspended slightly from the metal of the case. I checked around, and I don't have any extras either.

My question is, can you mount the motherboard directly in the case or are the plastic or copper colored pegs necessary to ground out the board?

I won't bother mounting it without them until I hear back, I don't want to short anything out.

Ignore this post, I just found a website that explains PC building and it said never mount the motherboard directly to the case without the stand up's because it can short circuit the MOBO.

this is generally good advice but there are some exceptions, some cases have raised areas in the back panel that effectively eliminate the need for spacers, infact using spacers on this sort of mobo tray will lift the mobo out of position
