My motherboard fan just all of sudden started making a noise and it's going real slow. Do I need to get a new fan? Am I ok without one? Can I still play games? I'm not sure what to do.

ASUS A8V-E Deluxe

.. is it the fan on the northbridge heatsink?
if it is, u really dont have to worry about it

BTW i have a mobo with no fan on my northbridge, and it works fine.

But i think u can find one for about 1 or 2 dollars @ newegg

Yes, you can get case fans very cheap on newegg, I bought 10 for $10 with no shipping costs.

I guess if you are really concerned you can download a freeware temp reading program that will tell you mobo temp and see if it reaches a critical value. Maybe your ASUS mobo came with the program, mine did and it is very handy.

It's the small fan..I guess that's on the northbridge.

What is normal mobo temps?
