most frustrating problem ever

yes, but the user refuses to buy one. he says he can claim it on his insurance but he has to pay a deductable... blah blah... so i was just tryin to helh him out.
 
lol yeah.... problem solved... i found a modem in an old pc... popped it in... and had no problems... something must have been shorted on the other modem that would cause the video card problem.... very strange. Thanks for the help!
 
Oh yeah, if its a telephone modem.. then yeah, they will get fried easily. Like i mentioned before, surges are most common on telephone lines not power lines. Depending on the age of the building/area, it may be worth to invest into a surge protector for the phone line - but then again, modems are DIRT cheap! Also, see if your current surge protector has telephone line jacks already build into it.
