Default monitor snowy when playing DVDs

Just bought a brand new Gateway Model 5228 computer and a Samsung 940BW widescreen LCD monitor on tuesday. All was well until I tried to watch a DVD movie, everyone I tried left the picture looking very snowy, especially in the dark areas of the screen. Do I need to update my graphics card, drivers or what? I'm not very good with computers, but those were my inital guesses.

if u know ur graphic card is weak then buy a more powerful one , what kind are u using?

try downloading a codec and see if that helps, i'd recommend (K-lite codec) http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm
