Monitor problems

Ok this is a wierd problem. The green light on my monitor just keeps flashing rapidly. Even with my computer closed, the problem still consists. I'm sure it's nothing to do with the power supply but maybe a weak signal? Oddly, the monitor does turn on when I hold down on the power button, but once i let go, the light starts flashing rapidly again. Any idea what's going on? The monitor I have is Samsung Syncmaster 957mb.

well if i don't think it's anything to do with the signal though.. Even when the monitor is not connected to the computer, the light just blinks like a mad man. Monitors aren't supposed to blink that fast..
