This only used to happen very infrequently... but more in the past few weeks (it's happening every hour or 2 at the moment).

My PC will seem to freeze, then the monitor flickers black and I get a red square in the screen saying:

Code:
    OUT OF RANGE

    H: 7 Khz
    V: 15 hz
  Max: 1280 x 1024

I haven't changed any resolution settings in the past few weeks that I can think would cause this.

Re:

Hello,

What graphics card and monitor do you have?

Also...what frequency is your display at?

I think the Monitor is set at 1024x768 60hz.

And I have a Radeon 9550... to the best of my limited knowledge.

what do you usally do before it happens? play games?
windows identifies the monitor properly or as "plug and play monitor" ? if it identifies it as p&p monitor then install its driver it will likely fix it ,
60hz is pretty bad on the eyes at least if its a CRT
