Take it to the nearest TV technician and get an estimate!
The last thing you want to do is 'discharge that ''flyback Xformer".......... by mistake!
 
yeah, that would suck pretty bad... The thing is, I've never seen an electronics repair shop in all of my years of living in the Kansas City area. Do people still do that?

A lot of your local TV guys are involved with installing DISH and Direct TV satellite systems for HDTV.
If you have a HDTV and it fails like your monitor, who do you think is going to fix it ??? The CSR at DISH ????
Even if you do manage to find the bad part...... the odds are you will not be able to find a part to fix it! That is why you take it to a professional........ or buy a new one!
 
If I had to guess, it's the power inverter causing the problem. One way to test: if the picture went out automatically or gradually got worse. You said that the picture just went out so it probably is the power inverter. Prices to replace range anywhere from $40-100.
