Microphone routing directly to speakers

I recently tested then uninstalled some sound effect programs to my computer. Ever since they have gone my microphone is always on. Instead of only being on when i was running programs that use it such as Ventrilo. I've gone through pretty much every setting that I can think of to make it stop. Anyone here have any experience with this?

click start, all programs, accessories, entertainment and volume control, there should be a slider for microphone, press Mute
