Default mem issue

my grandpa is having a prob with his gateway. everything was working fine until my sister(11 y/o) deleted some of the windows drivers(dont ask me how). so i just went ahead and re-insalled windows xp and now its saying i only have 511 mb ram when i know he has 768 because i installed it myself. wondering what it could be.
