Loss of Partition table

ok i have a friend with a lap top, it has "suddenly" stopped booting, cant find the partition table. i booted from CD and it found the drive but no OS i web to format but it failed at 20% and said that the hard drive wasnt connect properly, i checked all the connections (and it was) tried again same error. could the drive be physicly damaged? any thoughts guys?

Sounds like a bad HDD.
Have you tried to put that HDD as a slave into another machine ?

i dont have a spare laptop hard drive or another laptop tp hook it up to. (unless they do converters so i could wire it up to a normal system???)

Can't hurt do download a 98 bootdisk and try doing it via FDISK.

yup, you can get one right from www.bootdisk.com Get a windows 98 OEM one. You just download the executable file, pop a blank floppy in the drive and it will create the disk for you.
