Laptop wont boot

I have a Dell 8500 and it wont boot. It'll post, but once past that the screen gets funny (well not that funny) colored blocks across the screen, actually they are in columns up and down on the screen. Then it just stops, HD activity stops and nothing else happens.
Any ideas?

not looking good...dont buy dell...lol

could be your motherboard...your onboard video chip...could be overheating...could even be your cpu...i really dont know what else to tell you...

have you tried booting from a cd or does the error occur before that?

try getting into the bios and check the cpu temperature...

no its won't boot to safe mode. i was thinking a bad vid. processor myself.
