laptop hd converter

I have a laptop hardrive that stopped booting.. i bought a converter with the hopes of being able to save some files off it by installing it into a desktop as a slave. Do i just hook it into the back of the primary HD in the desktop?? How do i go about hooking it up. Someone told me once if you put it in the incorrect way it will wipe everything out totally off the hd.

it shouldn't wipe everything off...at least i've never heard that, what you watnt to do(im pretty sure theres a way to do this i havent played much with laptop drives) make sure your PC hard drive is set to master and the laptop is set to slave and put them on the same channel, or take both CD-Rom drives off and attatch it to there as master and your computer should read the drive.
