I have a Dell Dimension 4600C. This is a Desktop PC, but it is very small. The DVDRW/CDRW combo drive is exactly the same as a laptop. This drive is fried, my hard drive is fried as well. I had to replace the HD and then I removed the DVD drive and plugged an old laptop drive to it to load Windows XP Pro to the new HD. I would just keep using this CD drive except it doesn't fit in the mounting bracket for the old drive because of where the input is on the back.
Finding a drive that will fit the mounting bracket is not a problem. Will basically any laptop DVD/CD drive work as long as the plug fits? My experience with normal desktop CD drives is that pretty much any CD/dvd rom will work with any setup...any help would be greatly appreciated as my PC is laying on my floor partially open.
