Default Laptop audio problem

I have a problem with my audio when playing Battlefield 1942. The sound is not always at the current volume setting. For example, when I shoot, the volume will be normal, but other things like planes flying, are much more quiet. The sound settings are at the lowest quality and detail. The audio for my laptop is Conexant AMC Audio (no sound card.) Any ideas guys?
Thanks for anything you got.
