Lag starting up

Hello,

The last month I have noticed my custom built pc has been taking approximately 5 minutes to boot up. This isnt everytime, but I have not seen this in the past. The pc is about three years old.

AMD 2.8
512 ram
Windows XP SP 2

Defrag lately?
Reinstall Lately?

Also does it take a long time to boot (At the windows loading screen or BOIS loading screen) or does it take a long time to load (Once you've logged in and the programs are starting up). If it's taking a long time to load once your computer's already booted it should be a fairly quick fix. Just click on the start menu and click on "run". Type "msconfig" into the box that pops up. Go to the startup tab and click "Disable All" at the bottom. What this does is stops all the programs from starting up automatically when you turn on the computer. If there are certain programs you need/want to start up automatically with your computer you can leave them checked. Otherwise I would say just uncheck it. Hope that's at least somewhat of a help!
