Keyboard and mouse drivers corrupted

I have a friend's pc. If you are in setup or anytime before XP loads the keyboard and mouse work. After XP loads they are not functional. I know the drivers need to be re-installed. The only problem is, without a keyboard or mouse, how can I reload the drivers without doing a complete system recovery?

Did you try a different keyboard or mouse? Are they USB or PS/2?

I have tried USB and PS2 keyboards and mice. No luck.

I can get there, but the keyboard and mouse do not function there either?

This is very odd. Windows has default drivers for the keyboard in mouse. You don't need specific drivers to use it properly. Did you try reinstalling XP after this problem? Something must be wrong in the registry or something.
